When I was younger, my mom would crochet all the time. While my brother and I entertained ourselves with TV and video games, my mom would be in her armchair counting stitches. Our house was always filled with intricate afghans and crocheted hats and scarves.
I saw the care and detail she put into each of her creations and one day asked her to teach me. When she did, it became my obsession. These days, I crochet to relieve stress, as a creative outlet, and to bring to life the things others have trouble finding elsewhere. When I was in college, my roommates and friends learned about my special talent and encouraged me to start selling my items. I thought they were insane. There are so many people who do what I do, why does the world need one more person crocheting nerdy stuff? Well, once I realized that I wasn't limited to what patterns I could find, I could make things that my friends had never seen. So I decided to try it. Thanks to a small group of students that were somehow obsessed with everything I made, my name got out there and I eventually started selling my items in a local artisan shop. It was an amazing experience. Unfortunately, I went to college 6 hours away from home. Keeping up with inventory, tracking what sells, and shipping everything on time was too overwhelming. I'm so thankful to the time I had in that shop and that I got to be a part of it's growth. It's taken some time, but through years of trial and error I finally feel like I know what I'm doing. I've had this business running for 7 years now and don't plan to quit anytime soon. |

I had a rocky start. Working without patterns leaves a lot of room for errors.

Nowadays I make some stuff that, when I photograph, I can't believe it's something I've made.
